Job Summary

The WAN Network Administrator supports the Army’s enterprise network by maintaining large-scale WAN infrastructure and ensuring reliable connectivity for more than a million users across multiple security domains in a 24/7 operational environment. This role works in a fast-paced setting to resolve complex network issues, coordinate with internal and external partners, and maintain stable, secure operations across diverse platforms and technologies. The administrator also contributes to documentation, compliance, and modernization efforts while collaborating closely with team members to support mission-critical network performance. Key job responsibilities listed below:

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manages and maintains the Army’s enterprise-wide WAN infrastructure, delivering network services to users across multiple environments and locations.
  • Interfaces with customers to identify and resolve network connectivity and performance issues, coordinating with Remote Network Enterprise Centers (RNECs) and engaging DISA as needed to support enterprise-level incidents.
  • Manages configuration, maintenance, and protocol implementation on Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto routers, switches, and firewalls, including performing OS and firmware upgrades to maintain secure and stable network environments.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with key network protocols and technologies, including ACLs, BGP, OSPF, IPv6, NTP, SNMP, Spanning Tree, VPN/IPSec, VRF, NAT, and Syslog.
  • Analyzes network performance and utilization using tools such as Wireshark, Shnoz, and Guacamole, determining efficiency and compatibility while providing advanced troubleshooting for critical operational issues.
  • Oversees or provides technical assistance during Authorized Service Interruptions (ASIs).
  • Monitors network performance using Spectrum, Cisco Prime, and Junos Space.
  • Maintains professionalism and composure during high-stress operational scenarios.
  • Communicates current enterprise network status and future operational plans to government officials, military leaders, vendors, and VIP stakeholders.
  • Applies and maintains ACLs and IP block configurations to defend the enterprise network against unauthorized access and emerging cyber threats.
  • Reviews and verifies network documentation, including DCABs, RFCs, and FCWs, to ensure accuracy and compliance with enterprise standards.
  • Updates and maintains installation, operation, and maintenance procedures for network hardware and software, while guiding team members on capabilities and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Researches and evaluates emerging technologies and future infrastructure solutions to enhance and modernize enterprise network capabilities.
Qualifications
Required:
  • 2 years with BS/BA; 4 years of experience with no degree
